The right-wing think tank Show Me Institute has been claiming that the earnings tax that generates crucial revenue for the City of St. Louis drives businesses away from the city. In fact, the institute's gazillionare financier Rex Sinquefield is funding a ballot initiative to put the earning's tax in jeopardy.
Ironically enough, however, the institute has decided to move to the City of St. Louis! I guess there must be other considerations that make it worth it for the institution to be located in the city, despite the earnings tax. Fancy that.

Tried to follow your "Fancy that" link and got "can't establish a connection to the server at www.ewgateway.org."
ReplyDeleteThanks Kopper! It looks like the East-West Gateway site is down. Hopefully, they'll fix it soon to reveal the true power of my sarcasm. Anyway, the gist of the link was that St. Louis City was growing faster than the surrounding region even with the earnings tax.
