With the capture of Osama bin Laden and other gains against Al Qaeda’s terrorist network in the region, it’s time to scale back our military presence using a balanced approach.
We need to move swiftly to bring our troops home, but the drawdown must be measured and responsible – further progress on training Afghanistan National Security Forces and improved governance is fundamental to ensuring a successful transition to Afghan control and stability.

Where was Mr. Carnahan two years ago on this issue? Nothing meaningful has happened in Afghanistan during the last two years regarding the safety and security of the United States. And yet we've been spending two billion per WEEK over there. Way to struggle over a very low bar, Mr. Carnahan, basing your belatedly changed position on some recent but meaningless media spin.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, President Obama's plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan falls way short of what Americans want and deserve! It is time to bring all troops home and stop spending $100 billion per month on a no-win war(just like Vietnam). $1.2 trillion could be saved each year thus helping us out of our debt crisis. Now if only the DoD budget could be cut by 10% and also $200 billion per year could be spent for clean energy and infrastructure projects, we could put the workers for defense contractors to work plus create hundreds of thousands more jobs that would raise enough revenue to keep Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security intact!
ReplyDeleteIn addition to that, the government spent $15 billion on the War on Drugs in 2010 alone! This ineffective, immoral and illegal war needs to stop and marijuana needs to be legalized, and made a cash crop thereby creating jobs and tax revenue!
Rep. Eric Cantor has said that "nothing will be left off table" I will just say that the veracity of his statement leaves much to be desired!
