Great Man of History Brian Nieves

Apparently, some people are criticizing State Senator Brian Nieves because he allegedly bullied several of his constituents and then was caught on video calling one of his constituents "sub-human" over the radio and announcing the constituent's home address. Don't worry though, Nieves informs us that this is just the typical reaction of lesser lifeforms when they come in contact with a Great Man of History:



Now you may think that makes Nieves sound pretty obnoxious, but that just proves even more how Great he is.

Will Senators Who, According to Brian Nieves, Lack Spines And Male Anatomy, Decide to Investigate Nieves?

The Post-Dispatch wrote a blistering editorial about State Senator Brian Nieves earlier this week, saying that his antics were no longer funny. The op-ed was in response to allegations of Nieves bullying his constituents, followed by Nieves going on his radio show to call those constituents "sub-human" and even announcing the home address of one of them! Yesterday, Jo Mannies at the Beacon reported that a formal complaint had been filed against Nieves:

Three critics of state Sen. Brian Nieves, R-Washington, have filed a formal complaint about his behavior with the state Senate's Committee on Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics.

The three retired teachers -- residents of Nieves' 26th District -- earlier had complained in the Washington Missourian newspaper about a combative meeting they had with the senator about a month ago in the state Capitol.

So of course the question now is whether the Republicans in charge of the committee will put aside partisanship and actually go through with a legitimate investigation. My guess is no, since Brian Nieves has informed me that the members of the Senate other than Jim Lembke and himself do not have "spines" and various "parts of the male anatomy:"

Now I don't know what a male anatomy has to do with anything, but if Republican Senator Mayer, Lager, Dempsey, Dixon and Goodman are lacking a spine as Nieves says they are, then they surely won't have the guts to go through with an impartial investigation.

In another "off air" moment captured by livestreaming, someone who works at State Senator Brian Nieves' radio program asks Nieves if he can invite on the people Nieves has spent the last week calling sub-human, less than a man, evil thugs. Like a true bully/coward, Nieves is completely against the idea, claiming that "he's run in to these people" many times and that they try to bait him into a situation where "there's no way to win the argument."

VIDEO: Nieves Tells Co-Host To Falsely Claim Critical Letters Were From Liberal Blogs

During an unhinged facebook rant where he called one of his constituents "sub-human" approximately one week after an unhinged radio rant where he called one of his constituents "sub-human," and "less than a man," State Senator Brian Nieves announced that he'd have a lot to say about the scandal on his radio show that's co-hosted by Michelle Moore on Thursdays. Moore livestreams the program, which allows comments to be picked up when the radio is not on air. As you might imagine, Nieves says some pretty interesting things.

Prior to yesterday's show, Nieves can be seen coaching Moore to claim that three letters about him acting like a schoolyard bully were from "liberal blogs." In fact, each of the three letters about Nieves' bullying was printed in the Missourian, the newspaper for Washington, Missouri. Nieves tells his co-host that, "from a strategy standpoint," he doesn't want people to know about the letters in the Missourian and that "there are a lot of old ladies" who "want him to be nice all the time."

VIDEO: Nieves Calls Constituent "Sub-Human" And Announces His Address Over The Radio

About a week ago, Sarah Jo at Show Me Progress wrote a disturbing post based on the experience of a friend who visited State Senator Brian Nieves in his Senate office. In the post, Sarah Jo describes the shameful bullying behavior of Nieves towards his constituents, including two people over the age of 70:

Shortly after his exhortation on behalf of the rights of citizens to bear arms, the Senator returned to his office, called the two retired teachers into his office and shut the door. There on his desk was a copy of the newspaper with my friend's LTE. Two male aides stood on either side of the Senator, arms folded across their chests, as the Senator began a screaming session that lasted close to 20 minutes. His opening salvo was "You stupid f....." He shouted, shook the paper in the man's face, walked around him several times all the while shouting obscenities and threats. Sen. Nieves was in the Navy and ridiculed my friend for having served in the Army as if that had anything to do with the topic at hand.

My friend is a large man and could probably have decked Nieves but knew enough to restrain himself. He tried talking sense to Nieves, but that just set Nieves off even more. He called my friend "doughboy" pointing to his physique which is exactly what Nieves called the aide to his competitor last August in a similar verbal assault. In fact, Nieves gave my friend a copy of the 12 page handwritten police report by the young man last summer. Nieves' point was that my friend had put his family at risk by noting in his LTE that Nieves was going out of town at a meeting. (No, it doesn't make any sense since Nieves is gone 3-4 days every week to Jeff City, but we are not talking about a rational person here.)

At one point, my other friend who was "blindsided" by Nieves' screaming obscenities, held up his hands and asked if the three of them could sit down and talk quietly. At which point, Nieves screamed at this man too. Keep in mind these are well-bred gentlemen who are accustomed to civilized encounters with other people and who may never have experienced such low class behavior in their lives. And they are both over 70 years old.

Yesterday, three letters to the editor from Nieves' constituents appeared in the Missourian that backed up this account. And earlier tonight, Sean at Fired Up Missouri posted lowlights from a disturbing facebook rant from Nieves where he calls the constituent he screamed at sub-human, evil, a bully, a thug, and a very dangerous man. Nieves also, tellingly, wrote the following:

Maybe I should make public HIS address, phone number, schedule etc etc etc....

And why was Nieves so upset? According to Nieves, it was because the constituent, Tom Smith, had written the following about him earlier in a critical letter to the editor:

We learned he was preparing to go to Cincinnati on April 28 and 29 to attend the American Legislative Exchange (an ultra right-wing think tank) and was very excited about going.

Maybe the dates didn't need to be said, but the quote is pretty benign and was used to illustrate the fact that Nieves used the conference as an excuse to blow off constituents but was later seen standing around talking with other Senators.

But Nieves response was absolutely, unambiguously outrageous. In the following video, from Michelle Moore's USTREAM feed from May 19, you'll see Nieves calling Smith "Sub-Human," a "thug," an "idiot," and "less than a man." You'll also see that Nieves goes out of his was to say "Tom Smith, retired NEA teacher from Washington Missouri" over and over and even shamefully says the street that Smith lives on:


At this point, it is beyond debate that Brian Nieves has no business being within 300 yards of a legislative body. He really is a disgrace to Missouri.

Brian Nieves Introduces Ed Martin

According to Darin Morley, Brian Nieves introduced Ed Martin at an Ed Martin for Congress rally this weekend. Does anything else even need to be said?

Shocker! Recipient of Sinquefield Donations Wants to Deprive Public Schools of Funding!

Great catch by Sean at FiredUp of some more craziness from State Senator Brian Nieves. Nieves is off his rocker as usual, so you should read the full post for pure entertainment value if nothing else, but the issue that set Nieves off is pretty interesting. Basically, Nieves has been threatening to block $200 million dollars in federal education funds for Missouri Schools. And, as pointed out by Union R-XI School Superintendent Steve Bryant, Nieves is also the recipient of campaign contributions from Missouri's favorite millionaire voucher evangelist Rex Sinquefield:

“His (Nieves) idea is that we need to work on federal spending, but I just don’t feel this type of political stunt is how we accomplish that,” said Bryant. “It seems likely that his philosophy centers around major contributors like Rex Sinquefield.”

And more:

“I certainly understand the point that Sen. Nieves is trying to make in curtailing federal spending, and I don’t think anyone disagrees that we need to make more changes at the federal level, and at the same time, I understand the financial needs of this state,” Bryant said.

“This money is being put out regardless. It is already in the pipeline. He certainly has the right to make a point, but that money won’t be sent back to the federal government — it will be redistributed to other states,” Bryant added. “It really puts a big hole in the already strained budget of Missouri.”

“That jobs bill was to plug a hole in the state education budget. I think it is a real detriment in out ability to serve kids,” Bryant said,

Another superintendent shared Bryant's views on the fillibuster:

“It really was on the verge on ridiculous, but this latest change of events appears to be good news for public school districts,” VanLeer said. “I understand the principle of the matter, but it’s at the expense of schoolchildren.”

Just another day of common sense and basic decency being trumped by dogmatic extremism built on the foundation of free-market mumbo-jumbo.

The Nieves Incident vs. The Carnahan Incident

KMOX reported today that police are wrapping up their investigation of State Representative Brian Nieves:

The Washington, Missouri police department has completed its investigation into the alleged assault by State Representative Brian Nieves involving the campaign manager of a political rival.

Washington Missouri Police chief Ken Hahn says the final report has been forwarded to the Franklin County prosecutor for possible charges. Hahn declined to comment on the report’s findings.

Now, naturally, it's fair to say that Nieves is suspected of assault based on the allegations by Bell. However, it would be completely irresponsible, at this point, to say that Nieves assaulted Bell. Why? Because as of yet, we don't have the facts to make that decision. The police are assembling the evidence, and they will make a decision once they're done.

Similarly, in the case where a former campaign worker is/was suspected of firebombing Carnahan's office but then released because of a lack of evidence, it is irresponsible to claim that the person did the firebombing. Why? Because as of yet, we don't have the facts to make that decision. In fact, in this case, the police picked up the suspect the night of the incident, but still couldn't find evidence that connected him to the crime and so had to release him.

As I mentioned previously, no blogger or member of the media ever accused the tea party of committing the firebombing. As far as I know, no blogger or member of the media ever said that Nieves assaulted Bell. However, numerous bloggers and public figures, from Jim Gateway Pundit Hoft, to Adam Sharp, to Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, to Mark Reardon, are saying that the suspect is guilty despite the fact that no charges have even been filed (let alone tried in court). In other words, they are about to spend the next several days accusing reporters of "bias" and "irresponsible journalism" despite the fact that no one has behaved nearly as irresponsibly as they have on this issue.

Dana Loesch Calls Victim of Alleged Assault a "Pansy" Who Should Be Slapped and Thrown Through Glass

Last week, campaign staffer Sean Bell filed a police report claiming he was slapped, forced to strip, and told he was going to die by Missouri Republican Representative and tea party favorite Brian Nieves (who also reportedly used the N-word repeatedly during his tirade). Nieves was infuriated because he believed Bell was responsible for an email sent out claiming that Nieves had had affairs with several lobbyists while he was in the Missouri House. In a amazing catch by FiredUp Missouri, Loesch reacted to this incident by saying that if Bell was responsible for the email, "in my opinion, you deserve to be slapped, that's just my opinion, and like Michelle, I'd have probably thrown him through a window too. I don't think that's cool. And then don't gripe about it and whine about it like a pansy."

Brain Nieves Refers to Assault Rifle as "The Nancy Pelosi Special"

Republican State Representative Brian Nieves, known for extremist antics and alleged to have assaulted the staffer for his Republican Primary rival (pulling a gun on the staffer Sean Bell, slapping and head-butting Bell while claiming he was going to kill him, forcing him to strip and lie and the floor, and using the n-word repeatedly) earlier in the year referred to an assault rifle as "the Nancy Pelosi Special" on his radio program "The Patriot Enclave." Nieves was discussing the fact that FiredUp Missouri had earlier posted a clip of him when he was discussing an assault rifle, which he referred to as "the Nancy Pelosi special," and suggested that FiredUp had referred to him as an "extremist." Nieves repeatedly referred to a different gun as "the preferred gun for assassins" (0:20) and said you can, "put like three rounds in someone's head before they realize they've been shot," (10:00).

Nieves defended (29:30) the use of the term "assault rifle," saying, "I understand what an assault rifle is for . . . that gun was and is designed specifically for the elimination of bad guys."

Now I can't speak for FiredUp, but I'm going to out on a limb here and say that, yes, Brian Nieves is pretty clearly an extremist.
