St. Louis Activist Events for July 6-11

This week's events:

Tuesday, July 6, There's a very important hearing on a proposal by AmerenUE to build a 400 acre, 100-ft tall coal waste landfill on the Missouri River floodplain at 6 PM. Show up at at East Central College Theatre (1964 Prarie Dell Rd. in Union, MO) to express your opinion!

Wednesday, July 7, this month's Black and Green Wednesday Forum features a discussion of the Prison Industrial Complex with a great panel of speakers at 7 PM at Legacy Books and Cafe (5429 Delmar).

Also Wednesday, author James Levine will be reading from The Blue Notebook at 7 PM at Left Bank Books (399 N. Euclid).

Thursday, July 8, there will be a Young Professionals Happy Hour with Russ Carnahan at the Shiver Vodka Bar and Campagne Lounge (1130 Washington Ave.) from 5 to 7 PM.

Also Thursday, Metropolis St. Louis will be doing their monthly Walk in the Patch Neighborhood (starting at 7637 Ivory Ave) in South City a 6:30 PM.

Thursday through Sunday, the new play My Name is Rachel Corrie, about the American Activist who was crushed by an IDF bulldozer when trying to prevent the destruction of a Palestinian home, will be showing at 8 PM at the St. Louis University Black Box Theatre in Xavier Hall (3733 West Pine Blvd).

Friday, July 9, the Peace Economy Project will be holding a Send Off Dinner for activists traveling to D.C. to request a reduction in military spending. The send off will be from 5 to 7 PM at the Regional Arts Comission (6128 Delmar).

Also Friday, the St. Louis Aces will be raising money for the Animal House Fund for their match beginning at 7:15.

Also Friday, the adult spelling bee Dizzy Spell is back raising money for What's Up Magazine and the Homeless Empowerment Project with a session at The Archive (3215 Cherokee) from 7:30 to 11:30 PM.

Saturday and Sunday, check out the Democracy for America Campaign Academy to learn how to run a grassroots campaign at the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar) starting at 9 AM.

Saturday, July 10, the Community Arts and Media Project (3026 Cherokee) will be holding a Trade Town bartering extravaganza from noon to 6 PM. Anything not traded will be donated to local charities.

Also Saturday, When the River City was Red from 1 to 4 PM in Wilson Park (29th and State in Granite City, IL) Commemorates the General Strike of 1877.

Also Saturday, Venus Williams will be signing copies of her book Come to Win until 2 PM at Left Bank Books Downtown (321 N. 10th Street).

Also Saturday, there will be a celebration of the reclamation of the Little House Garden (17th and Mullaphy St.) in honor of local activist Mary Ann McGivern from 2 to 6 PM.

Also Saturday, T Cooper and St. Louis artist Alex Petrowsky will be at the Mad Art Gallery (2727 S. 12th) at 7 PM to present their book The Beaufort Diaries .

Sunday, July 11, there will be a tour of several local chicken coops around Tower Grove Park from 10 AM to 1 PM.

Also Sunday, the Christmas in July Toy Drive for Project ARK will be from 3 to 8 PM at Bad Dog Bar and Grill (3969 Chouteau).

Also Sunday, this month's Earthdance Fresh Ideas event with a focus on Backyard Micro-Farms and Chickens will be from 7 to 9:30 PM at St. Stephen's in Ferfuson (33 N. Clay Avenue).
